REGULATION, 1821[1] A Regulation for giving greater efficiency to the

Central Act XVII of 1862. First.-- The powers granted, be heads of villages, under
clause first, section 10, Regulation XI of 1816, [4]to punish
trivial offences, are hereby extended, under the rules and limitations therein
specified, to the punishment of petty thefts not attended with aggravating
circumstances not committed by persons of notoriously bad character, and where
the value of the property stolen does not exceed one rupee. Report of punishment. Second.-- Heads of villages shall report to the head
Police-officer of the district all cases in which they shall have exercised the
power of punishment granted to them by clause first of this section. [***] [***] [***] [Repeal of Reg. IX of 1816, s. 37: Magistrate and

(Central Act XI of 1901). [2] This word was substituted for the word "provinces" by the
Adaptation Order of 1950. [3] It may be noted that s. 4 of this Regulation, which had been repealed by
Central Act XVII of 1862, was revived by the Laws Local Extent Act, 1874
(Central Act XV of 1874), Second Schedule; the section was, however,
subsequently again repealed by Central Act XII of 1876, Sch, Part I. Section 6
