THE ASSAM OPIUM PROHIBITION (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1954

PREAMBLE

An Act further to amend the Assam Opium Prohibition Act, 1947.

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend further the Assam Opium Prohibition Act, 1947 (Assam Act XXIII of 1947), hereinafter called the Principal Act in the manner hereinafter appearing;

It is hereby enacted in the Fifth year of our Republic as follows:--

Section 1 - Short title, extent and commencement

(1)     This Act may be called the Assam Opium Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 1954.

 

(2)     It shall have the like extent as the Principal Act.

 

(3)     It shall come into force at once.

Section 2 - Amendment of section 19(1) of Assam Act XXIII of 1947

In sub-section (1) of Section 19 of the Principal Act for the word "Superintendent" the words "Deputy Superintendent" shall be substituted.

Section 3 - Amendment of section 20(1) of the Assam Act XXIII of 1947

In sub-section (1) of Section 20 of the Principal Act between the words "Sub-Deputy Collector", and "and any Prohibition Officer" the words "any Inspecting Officer or any Intelligence Officers of the Narcoties Intelligence Bureau, Government of India" shall be inserted.

Section 4 - Amendment of section 26 of the Assam Act XXIII of 1947

In section 26 of the Principal Act between the words "Sub-Inspector" and "with" the words "and the Inspecting Officer and Intelligence Officers of the Narcoties Intelligence Bureau, Government of India" shall be inserted.
