ANDHRA PRADESH (TELANGANA AREA) WEEKLY HOLIDAY SUBSTITUTION OF SUNDAY FOR FRIDAY) ACT, 1950

PREAMBLE

Whereas Friday has hitherto been observed as a weekly holiday in the Telangana area of the State of Andhra Pradesh and has been deemed to be the first day of the week;

And whereas it is expedient that the weekly holiday should hereafter be observed on Sunday and that Sunday should be deemed to be the first day of the week;

It is, hereby enacted as follows :-

 

Section 1 - Short title and commencement

(1)     This Act may be called the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Weekly Holiday (Substitution of Sunday for Friday) Act, 1950.

 

(2)     It shall be deemed to have come into force from the 26th January, 1950.

 

Section 2 - Construction of references to Friday in provisions relating to a weekly holiday

Every provision of law for the time being in force in the Telangana area of the State of Andhra Pradesh which provides for or relates to the observance of Friday as a Weekly Holiday for any purpose whatsoever shall have effect at if all references therein to Friday were references to Sunday.

Section 3 - Construction of references to thursday in provisions defining or referring to a week

Every provision of law for the time being in force in the Telangana area of the State of Andhra Pradesh which defines or refers to a week as the period of seven days beginning with midnight on Thursday night shall have effect as if all references therein to Thursday were references to Saturday;
