1. This is an utterly mischievous petition and made in extreme bad taste.
2. There can be no element of public interest in the matter. The prayer in the writ petition is for directing the Chief Minister of the State to not chair any Advisory Committee formed under Section 7 of the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Act, 1959, until he takes a pledge in front of a Hindu God in a nearby Hindu temple in the presence of two witnesses.
3. Discord, disharmony and suspicion in the name of religion has to stop. This is a secular country and secularism implies tolerance for the other religion. This country also provides for freedom of expression to its citizens, which, in turn, implies lending an ear to the other point of view.
4. Even the Constitution permits the oath of office to be taken either in the name of God or in the name of the Constitution.
5. It does not appear that any religion teaches narrowmindedness or requires followers of another faith to be hurt or injured. The sentiment expressed in the petition cannot be appreciated.
6. W.P.No.16431 of 2021 is dismissed. Though no costs are imposed on the petitioner, the petitioner will not be entitled to file any public interest litigation for a period of two years from date without obtaining the previous permission from the relevant Bench in such regard.
